Independence Day & The Promise of America

Hi << Test First Name >>,

My name is Marilyn Connolly, and I’m running for Wyoming House District 40.

Happy Fourth of July weekend! This year is extra special because it is the 250th anniversary of our country's founding. This time of year, I always reflect on patriotism, service, and the vision of our Founding Fathers for this country. Today, I want to tell you what those things mean to me.

The Promise of America

Throughout my life, I have felt a sense of duty to uphold the individual freedoms outlined in the Constitution. That sense of duty first called me to serve in my local community in whichever way I could, as a CNA, EMT, public health coordinator, and so on. That sense of duty then called me to public office, serving on the Johnson County Commission. This experience gave me a taste of using our founding principles to meet the real needs of our community.

Now, I continue to advocate for our constitutional freedoms in the legislature. Whether I'm strengthening property rights by cutting property taxes, protecting our brave veterans, or defending our beloved right to bear arms, I do my best to continue the work of our Founding Fathers by ensuring our freedoms remain constant.

Wyoming & America

While Wyoming was not a state at the time of our country's founding, our impact on America's history cannot be overstated. Our coal, gas, and critical minerals powered railroads and early energy projects throughout the country. Our early settlements and agricultural lands provided pioneers on the Oregon Trail with resources, replenishment, and guidance on their journey westward. Yellowstone became the first plot of land to be designated as a national park, inspiring communities around the country to preserve and protect their public lands for generations to come.

Wyoming was also the first territory, and later the first state, to grant suffrage to women. We elected Nellie Tayloe Ross, the first female governor elected in the country. These achievements gave us our official state motto of "Equal Rights" and inspired civil rights movements around the country. I'm proud to carry on the legacy of these women, and all of our amazing Wyoming pioneers, by serving in the legislature.

I feel a great deal of gratitude and pride in being an American. As a grandmother of ten, I am deeply invested in ensuring that the United States and Wyoming remain thriving nation and state for the next generation. I hope you'll join me in celebrating this Independence Day with an eye toward the future.
